Oppression

Oppression gives material form to the suffocating tension of confinement and the weight of restraint through a raw metal construction. The sculpture raises a vertical, prismatic volume that is violently strangled at its midsection by a tight binding. The metal surfaces, modelled with taut folds and deep textures, make visible the force of the compression deforming the original structure. It is a work of forceful political and emotional charge, in which the rigidity of steel yields to outside pressure, turning matter into an eloquent testimony of resistance.
