Memory

This sculpture gives forceful material form to the weight of history and time through a solid construction in iron. It rises vertically from a square base, presenting a closed metal tube that is violently torn open at its midsection. Through this breach of eroded, cutting edges the interior is revealed: a heavy chain of rusted links that remains imprisoned and contained in the entrails of the structure. It is a piece of deep poetic and political resonance, in which the rigidity of steel and the rawness of metal become the unbreakable keeper of collective memory.
